A Lubbock County grand jury on Tuesday indicted a former Lubbock-Cooper ISD science teacher accused of taking inappropriate pictures of students with his cell phone.

Cody Taylor, 36, is charged with possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony that carries a punishment of two to 10 years in prion.

Lubbock County prosecutors believe Taylor possessed an image of a child displaying her bare chest, according to an indictment.

Lubbock County Texas Anti-Gang Center investigators began an investigation into Taylor on Feb. 26 after Lubbock Cooper ISD officials called authorities at the end of an internal investigation into allegations that Taylor inappropriately filmed female students in his class, according to an arrest warrant.

Investigators believe Taylor, who taught at Lubbock Cooper North Elementary, had female students sit at a “work desk” while using a school-issued iPad as he sat across them, holding his smartphone under the table and taking pictures of their genital areas, the warrant states.

During a search of his home computer, investigators found an image of apparent child pornography, the warrant states.

He resigned from the school on Feb. 22, school officials said in a statement.
