An unknown number of students were exposed to personal defense-grade pepper spray Friday afternoon during an after school program at Lubbock-Cooper South Elementary.
According to a statement from Lubbock-Cooper ISD, the incident happened during a YWCA-sponsored after school care program. It was contained and parents of all involved students were notified within minutes.
“This incident did not involve any employee of Lubbock-Cooper ISD,” the statement reads. “Further questions should be directed toward YWCA of Lubbock.”
A representative of YWCA of Lubbock referred A-J Media questions to a phone number that went straight to voicemail. A message was not returned by late Friday.
