A teacher’s union is disappointed Texas has punted on coming up with reopening plans.
Yesterday, TEA Commissioner Mike Morath announced there will be classes in person, but it’s delayed final guidance for districts.
A draft document on the TEA’s website shows the state will largely be “hands off” on student safety, imposing few mandatory requirements. A statement issued by the TEA indicates it’s still accepting feedback on that draft.
The Texas American Federation of Teachers wants Texas to release the billion dollars it’s holding onto for districts. Otherwise, there’s not enough money to plan with.
Frenship and Lubbock ISD’s first day of school is August 17. Lubbock ISD Superintendent Kathy Rollo told parents yesterday the district will announce it’s reopening plan in the next two weeks. Lubbock Cooper ISD has set its start date for two days later.
